Cameron University staff members Julie Kendall and Sharon Rigsby are the recipients of the Fall 2013 semester’s Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Kendall is an Enrollment Specialist in the Office of the Registrar, and Rigsby is the Administrative Assistant in the Office of the Dean of the School of Science & Technology. Each received a $500 stipend and a commemorative award.
Pickaxe Award recipients have made a contribution and/or commitment that has resulted in a significant difference to Cameron students, visitors, or other employees, or whose commitment to their job responsibilities, department, or the university stands out as a clear example to all other employees. Award recipients must have been employed full-time at least one year at Cameron. Nominations were made by Cameron students, faculty and staff. Recipients were selected by the university’s Executive Council.
Kendall was nominated by numerous individuals from different academic units on campus, each of whom acknowledged her positive and cheerful attitude, her problem-solving ability and her dedication to easing the enrollment process for Cameron students. She was referred to as “a hard-working, even-tempered, student-centered asset to Cameron University” by one nominator and “a vital part of our Cameron enrollment system” by another. A third said of her, “Julie sets an example every day of how we should all deal with students, staff and faculty.”
Rigsby was also recognized as “an asset to our university” by one nominator, who further stated, “She is always upbeat and positive and goes out of her way to guide all the administrative assistants in the School of Science and Technology and others around the university.” Another nominator said, “Her knowledge base is incredible, and she is very willing to share her knowledge to the betterment of students, faculty, the School and the University.” Rigsby was called “an absolute goldmine of information about the university” and was lauded for the professional yet “kind and approachable” demeanor she maintains when assisting students, faculty and staff.
