The Cameron University Alumni Association (CUAA) has pledged $60,000 toward the construction of Cameron’s Veterans Grove, a place of reflection and remembrance all those who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces. Veterans Grove is located on the north side of Howell Hall and was dedicated during Cameron’s Veterans Day observance last fall. The CUAA’s pledge represents the lead gift in a campaign to raise funds to enhance Veterans Grove.
“Cameron is committed to continuing its tradition of recognizing the role of our veterans,” says Cameron President Cindy Ross. “While we recognize there is no place, no memorial and no tribute that can ever match the enormity of our veterans’ service and sacrifice, Veterans Grove will be a reminder of the selfless contributions of our soldiers, veterans and their families.”
“The CUAA is proud to continue to be involved with the exciting changes around the campus,” says Jessica Champagne, CUAA president. “It is only fitting that we choose to honor America’s veterans and their families, including those Cameron graduates who have served in the military. The CUAA looks forward to continuing the long tradition of alumni involvement with Cameron.”
The CUAA is a generous supporter of the Cameron University Foundation. In the past 20 years, contributions have totaled almost $250,000, which includes a $75,000 gift to the Centennial “Changing Lives” Campaign and almost $60,000 to fund student scholarships. The association has also supported student activities, athletics, KCCU and building renovations.
The completion of Veterans Grove includes the addition of a statue, a fountain and lighting. An additional $150,000 needs to be raised to complete Veterans Grove.
“Veterans Grove is an important addition to the Cameron campus,” says Albert Johnson, Jr., Vice President for University Advancement. “We are confident that our community partners will assist us in meeting that goal by contributing the funds required to make the planned enhancements.”
