The Cameron University Department of Music will present the CU Guitar Ensemble in concert on Saturday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. Members include Ashim Bohara, Kathmandu, Nepal; and Russell Caballero, Daren Powell, and Shane Rutherford, all of Lawton. Kirsten Underwood,
Assistant Professor of Music, is the director of the ensemble. The group will perform trios and quartets by composers of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras as well as contemporary pieces. Admission is free.
The repertoire includes the beautiful “Elvira Madigan,” otherwise known as the slow movement from Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21; waltzes by Agustín Barrios Mangoré; two pieces by Renaissance composer Claudin de Sermisy; an arrangement of Edvard Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King”; and pieces by Ulrich, Albeniz, Scheidt, Warshawsky and Scharwenka. In addition, the ensemble will perform "Contention," a new composition by ensemble member Rutherford. The last section of the concert, featuring contemporary jazz arrangements of compositions by Django Reinhardt, Guy Bergeron and Jerry Reed, will include Spenser Jones, Oklahoma City, on cello and Bradley Wolf, Cache, on bass.
