Cameron University Department of Theatre Arts presents “A Curious Mishap”

The Cameron University Department of Theatre Arts will kick off its season “A Year of Manners and Comical Mishaps!” with “A Curious Mishap” from September 27-30 at the Cameron University Theatre. This production of Carlo Goldini’s 1757 comedy of intrigue will also serve as Cameron’s entry in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.  Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday’s performance starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for Students/Senior Citizens/Military.  Admission is free to CU students with valid ID. The story revolves around a pair of young lovers, De la Cotterie, a poor French lieutenant played by Brandon Landers of Lawton, and the beautiful Giannina, the daughter of a rich Dutch merchant, Philibert. Giannina is played by Brandi Goldsmith of Lawton, and Alexander Huff, Lawton, takes on the role of Philibert.  While Philibert forbids their marriage, he is all too eager to see the hapless soldier married to the daughter of his rival, a hypocrisy that lands him in hot water. As the lovers hatch a plan to trap the merchant with his own words, their servants - a pair of quick-witted schemers themselves - realize they have fallen madly in love with each other. Masters and servants alike are caught in their own elaborate designs, and one misunderstanding leads to another and another, until no one is quite sure what or whom to believe. Passion and pretense collide in this clever, fast-paced look at how one curious mishap turns all of their lives upside down.

Rounding out the cast are Mark Deyesso, Brett Jolly and Ashley Winfrey, Lawton; and Clinton Blackwell, Jr., Oklahoma City.

Scott Richard Klein, Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts, is the director. The production staff includes Jeffrey Citrowske, Duncan; Shea Dickinson, Lawton; Leah Mazur, Cache; Truly Pettijohn, Marlow; Byron Phillips, Elgin; and Brandon Smith, Blair.

Cameron’s Department of Theatre Arts is a member of the Oklahoma Community Theatre Association.
