Cadets from Cameron University’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program topped the field in the Male and Coed (OK/AR) Ranger Challenge Competition, held at Camp Gruber near Muskogee last weekend. Cameron’s Comanche Battalion faced off against ROTC squads from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, the University of Central Oklahoma, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas State University, University of Central Arkansas, Ouachita Baptist University, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Henderson State University.
“The cadets from the Comanche Battalion dedicated themselves to training for this competition, and their training paid off,” says LTC Rod Boles, Chair, Department of Military Science. “They were prepared both mentally and physically for the wide-range of events they faced.”
Cadets on the coed team were Andrew Baughman, Charleston, SC; Joshua Barnett, Houston, TX; Bruce Malpica, Puerto Rico; Juan Orozco, El Paso, TX; Jesus Pereira, Wahiawa, HI; Tameka Thomas, Biloxi, MS; and Natalie Vogt, Claremore. The male team was comprised of Calab Ellis, William Fleshman, Brandon Landrum, Justin Walley, all of Lawton; Briar Bohach, Mustang; Zachary Higginbotham, Snyder; and Michael Ortner, Billings, MT.
Cameron’s cadets took first place in several events, including Army Physical Fitness Test (Coed), Day & Night Orienteering (Coed), Hand Grenade Assault Course (Male), First Aid Obstacle Course (Male),
M16 Assembly & Disassembly (Male and Coed), Military Written Test (Male and Coed ) and 10K Ruck March (Male and Coed).
