“Gianni Schicchi” is Puccini’s only comic opera. The recently deceased Buoso Donati has left his estate to the church, much to the dismay of his family. Gianni Schicchi conspires with the family to concoct a new will. He impersonates the dead man and dictates a new will leaving the most valuable assets to himself so he can provide a dowry for his daughter Lauretta.
Included in this Cameron University presentation are Cameron University music majors who are studying vocal music at Cameron. The cast includes Jory Pickens as Gianni Schicchi; Angelika Ramsdell as Lauretta; Melissa Delgado as Zita; Sabrina Harrell as Nella; Prudence Miller as La Ciesca; Josh Hale as Rinuccio; Mark Deyesso as Gherado; Jeremy Cobb as Betto; Caleb Payne as Simone; Anthony Clark as Marco; and Heesun Standfield as both Spinelloccia and Amantio. The piano accompanist for this opera is Jiha Choi, piano student of Dr. Hyunsoon Whang.
“Gianni Schicchi” is presented with generous support from the Southwest Oklahoma Opera Guild.
