Cameron University faculty members Katherine Liontas-Warren and Monika Linehan will present an art exhibit in the Art Building from August 30 through September 10, with an opening reception on Friday, August 27 from 4 – 5:30 p.m. The show represents a series of portrait and figurative drawings completed this summer. The work can be viewed on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 – 2 p.m.; on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and on Fridays from 11 a.m. – Noon and 2 – 5 p.m
Liontas-Warren applied for a Cameron University Research Grant in order to continue her studies in the figurative and portraiture style of classical art. After receiving the grant, which provided funding for a model, she invited Linehan to join her for three-hour sessions twice a week for six weeks to create the works that will be on display. When the model was unavailable, the artists used each other for subjects. Liontas-Warren’s work includes a pastel self-portrait and two drawing portraits of Linehan. Linehan’s work includes a pastel and charcoal drawing of Liontas-Warren.
“Although our drawing styles varied dramatically, we learned a great deal from one another, resulting in an enriching studio experience and artistic growth and experimentation on both our parts,” says Liontas-Warren. “These new works will be submitted into national competitive shows in 2011.”
Liontas-Warren joined the Cameron faculty in 1984. A Professor of Art, she teaches all levels of Drawing and Printmaking.
Linehan, an Associate Professor of Art, joined the Cameron staff in August 2004. She teaches Advanced Drawing, Figure Drawing, Beginning Painting, Advanced Painting, Senior Art Studio, and Computer Graphic Design.
The Art Building is part of the Louise D. McMahon Fine Arts Complex; parking is available at the Cameron University Theatre.
