When Fall 2010 classes get underway at Cameron University-Duncan on August 18, the campus will be home to its first full-time faculty members, one in English and one in mathematics. The addition of two full-time faculty positions became official when the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents approved Cameron University’s budget earlier this week.
“Thanks to the incredible support from the residents of Duncan and Stephens County, Cameron University-Duncan has experienced enrollment growth each year since becoming a branch campus of Cameron University in July 2004,” says Cameron President Cindy Ross. “Last year alone, enrollment increased by 18 percent, giving rise to a need for more advising and academic support. By adding two full-time faculty positions to the Duncan campus, we are responding to the increased student demand, and we look forward to the continued growth of higher education opportunities in Duncan.”
To date, faculty assignments at Cameron University-Duncan have been comprised entirely of faculty from the Lawton campus supplemented by adjunct instructors.
“The addition of full-time faculty members at Cameron University-Duncan fulfills one of the goals of Dream Duncan’s Destiny’s education component and will be of great benefit to the students at Cameron University-Duncan,” says Susan Camp, director, Cameron University-Duncan. “The role of a faculty member extends beyond the classroom, as faculty personnel also serve as academic advisors, ensuring that students complete each of the requirements for their degree plans. Having two full-time faculty on site at Duncan means that our students can avail themselves of academic and advising support much more readily.”
