KCCU, Cameron University's Public Radio Station, will host a live broadcast of "Democracy Now!" the award-winning independent news program that airs nationally on more than 750 radio and television outlets and over the internet. "Democracy Now!" host and executive producer Amy Goodman will broadcast the show live from the KCCU studios on the Cameron University campus on Tuesday, April 28, from 7-8 a.m. KCCU airs "Democracy Now!" weekdays at noon.
"KCCU is privileged to host this live broadcast of ‘Democracy Now!'," says Ted Riley, KCCU General Manager. "Throughout her broadcasting career, Amy Goodman has been renowned for her dedication to providing public access to independent and international journalists. Her commitment to hard news reporting stands out in today's world of corporate-sponsored 'infotainment' that has become a mainstay of mainstream media."
On Monday, April 27, Goodman will be featured speaker during a reception and book signing at the Leslie Powell Gallery at 7 p.m. Following a lecture and question-and-answer period, she will sign copies of her latest book, "Standing Up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times." The reception is free and open to the public.
Goodman is the first journalist to receive the Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize' for "developing an innovative model of truly independent grassroots political journalism that brings to millions of people the alternative voices that are often excluded by the mainstream media." She is also one of the first recipients of the Park Center for Independent Media's Izzy Award, named for the muckraking journalist I.F. Stone.
