CU students encouraged to apply for new scholarship

Cameron University's Office of Financial Assistance is pleased to announce the availability of The College Access Challenge Scholarship, which is accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded for the Spring 2009 semester. Applications are available in the Office of Financial Assistance, 301 North Shepler. The deadline to apply is Friday, February 20.

"As we experience a declining economy, we want to make every effort to assist students who are in need of financial aid," says Carol Claiborne, Interim Director of Financial Assistance. "Financial hardship is a driving factor that prevents students from completing their education. Scholarships such as The College Access Challenge Scholarship play a crucial role in keeping students on track for degree completion."

The College Access Challenge Scholarship will be awarded to students who meet the following requirements:

(1) Must have a FAFSA on file and be PELL eligible for the 2008-2009 school year.

(2) Must be near completion of a baccalaureate degree, e.g., within 30 hours of completion or identified as a "senior" or a "4th-year student."

Preference will be given to students who have prolonged their college education due to financial need. This is a one-time award for a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $1000.
