McNair Scholars Program

The Summer Research Internship

Summer research interns 2006The McNair Scholars Program provides a summer research internship for selected scholars who meet specific program criteria. During the summer research component, scholars participate in an intensive eight-week research experience as well as scheduled workshops on topics relating to the nature of academic life, writing research papers and proposals, and preparing for the graduate school application process. All activities are designed to provide relevant experience and information to scholars who are strongly considering pursuing a career in academia.

The research experience is provided under the direction of a faculty mentor. The scholar, in consultation with his or her faculty mentor, develops the proposal and conducts the research for the project. Scholars are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on the summer research project.

Research interns present their research findings at a McNair Scholars' monthly colloquia, professional conference, or a conference within his or her specific discipline.
