McNair Scholars Program

Special Events

Scholars participate in a variety of special events to include cultural activities, graduate school visits, workshops, and awards ceremonies.  Scroll down to view some of the year's activities.

Commencement 2006

Lionel Dabbs and Michelle Churchwell both crossed the graduation stage at the Great Plains Coliseum to earn degrees in English.

McNair Banquet

The McNair Awards Banquet 2006 honored graduating scholars, announced the Outstanding Scholars for the year, Valarie Toodle and Lionel Dabbs, and named the recipient of the O'Keeffe Award member, Dr. Danny McGuire.

Dr. McGuire was cited for his significant contributions to the program while serving as a faculty mentor. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Outstanding Scholar 2006 Valarie Toodle

The banquet was held at Rinie's Kitchen and Wine Bar. The evening of fine dining and awards, provided a relaxed, comfortable setting for faculty mentors, scholars, and their family members visit.                        

Graduating scholars were recognized for their achievements while in the program and also reflected on their experiences in the McNair Scholars Program.

Tai Chi/Stress Relief Workshop

McNair Scholars typically juggle full class loads, jobs, and family life in addition to participating in McNair activities!  Sometimes it is important to stop and relax.  McNair Scholars were able to participate in a Tai Chi workshop designed to introduce stress relief techniques.  Sifu David Scott conducted the workshop at the Southwest Institute of Martial Arts in downton Lawton.

TRiO Day 2006

A delegation of students and staff from Cameron University joined over 1,000 Oklahoma students and staff members for a rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol on February 22, 2006 to demonstrate their support of the Title IV TRiO programs.
