Eligibility Requirements and the Application Process
The McNair Scholars Program at Cameron University is looking for a few good scholars. The program is funded to work with 21 scholars each year and participants must meet the following requirements:  | Highly motivated, disciplined, and hard working individuals | |
 | Full-time students at Cameron who have completed at least 30 credit hours and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.70 |
 | U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States |
 | Either a first generation college student (neither parent has received a four-year bachelor's degree) of any ethnic background who meets specific income guidelines as established by the federal government; or are a member of a group underrepresented* in graduate education as defined by the U.S. Department of Education |
 | Students who have a serious interest in pursuing graduate study leading to the Ph.D. |
* The federal government defines "persons traditionally underrepresented" as students who are African American, Hispanic, or Native American. If you have questions about the program, please call (581-2352) or come by and ask to visit with one of the McNair staff members in room 431 N. Shepler.

Benefits of Being a McNair Scholar

 | A paid summer research internship ($2800) with a six-hour tuition waiver (interns are selected on a competitive basis)
Opportunities to engage in faculty-guided research
Fee waivers for the Graduate Records Exam
Workshops covering topics relating to teaching, research, and service in higher education
Inclusion in a national graduate school recruitment database
Consideration for other initiatives offered to scholars such as graduate school admission fee waivers and special assistantships and scholarships designated for McNair Scholars
Travel to academic conferences to present research
Participation in graduate school recruitment fairs
