Black Heritage Celebration 2011

The Buffalo Soldiers rode again in the Cameron Library on Thursday, February 24, as faculty, staff, and students listened to local historian and author, Wallace Moore, Sr.  Mr. Moore, a retired army sergeant major, shared stories about the lives of the Buffalo Soldiers—African Americans who served in the Army on America’s expanding western frontier.  He not only recounted the daily life experiences but also the battle experiences.  He indicated most of these Buffalo Soldiers were former slaves with little or no military training.  Moore revealed that these young men not only survived but successfully completed duty assignments because of their tenacity and faith.
