APA Style - References

Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed., 2001. 

Copies are available at the Bookstore, or borrow one from the Library using call number: BF 76.7.P83 2001.

Order and General Rules for Creating a Reference List:

  
Authors: Use last name, initials for authors #1-6. Replace 7th & following authors with et al. Use (Ed.) or (Eds.) after last editor(s).
Date: Publication date in parentheses is the second item. Use full date (year, month, day) for items without a volume number.
Books/Nonperiodicals:  Italicize full title (with edition, report number, volume number in parentheses). Publication place: Publisher.
Journals:  Article title. Full periodical title in italics, volume number in italics, issue number if needed, inclusive page numbers. Use volume number for journals, magazines, and newsletters.  Newspapers use pp. before page numbers.
Internet:  Cite as any other work, then add retrieval statement.  ADD: Retrieved month, day, year, from name of database.  For online databases (e.g. EBSCOhost from CU Library subscription): use appropriate citation and add date of access and source information. For general WWW sites and sources use appropriate citation, date of access, source information, and URL.
Republished:  Cite source used; then add original publication information. (This includes reprints in print and on Internet.)
Basics:  1 inch margins, 12-pt Times Roman font, one space after punctuation.  Double space and indent all lines after the 1st line.
