School of Liberal Arts
The School of Liberal Arts is one of several academic schools at Cameron University. Ours is a diverse school which includes fine arts programs in Art, Theatre Arts and Music, as well as programs in English, History, Political Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Foreign Languages, and Communication. In addition to offering these degree programs, the School of Liberal Arts also provides courses in general education, which are the very important foundation courses of students' academic degrees. We have within our school several state-of-the-art facilities available to assist students as they pursue their academic careers: the Center for Writers and the Language Learning Center located in Nance-Boyer Hall, the Fine Arts Computer Laboratory in the Music Building, and the new Academic Commons, which serves all students on campus by housing a multidisciplinary tutoring center, new computer laboratories, modern classrooms and a technical helpdesk. The Academic Commons is also the home of Cameron's new convergence journalism program.
Our faculty members enjoy reputations as some of the finest professors on campus, and they have been deeply involved historically with assisting student learning and scholarship through advising and mentoring, honor society participation, and special programs which extend beyond the traditional classroom. If you are currently a Cameron student or if you are contemplating becoming one, please know that in the School of Liberal Arts, you will enjoy a faculty which is skillful, enthusiastic and available to assist you. We are also very proud of our support staff in each of our departments, individuals whose responsibility it is to guide you to the appropriate individual or activity and support you in other ways as you begin your academic experience at Cameron.
Because we are the home of the Fine Arts programs, we engage in theatre productions, art exhibits and concerts, to which we invite the campus community and the public. We feel strongly that an important aspect of a university education takes place outside the classroom, at recitals, art shows, conferences, debates, student government activities and other events, and we are proud that many such events are sponsored by departments in our school. We urge all students to be full participants in campus life and to take advantage of all the activities and organizations available on our campus.
Please feel free to contact any of the departments in the School of Liberal Arts for additional information regarding our degree programs. We wish you every success as you embark on your academic adventure!
The mission of the School of Liberal Arts is to offer quality associate and baccalaureate programs in the fine arts, humanities, and social sciences. The School also plays an important role in general education. In our programs and course offerings, the School of Liberal Arts fosters a student-centered academic environment, in keeping with the mission of the University, and is dedicated to guiding students to the highest possible standard of achievement.
The School of Liberal Arts also actively seeks to make the University a driving force in the cultural life and economic development of the region by encouraging faculty scholarship, developing partnerships with the community, and producing concerts, recitals, theatre productions, art exhibitions, lectures, symposia, workshops, camps, and public forums which enrich the intellectual and cultural lives of all of our constituents.
