2. What type of cables will I need?
To connect to ResNET, you only need a CAT-5 ethernet cable (male-to-male) that is no longer than 25-feet. No cross-overs.First, locate the etherport on your computer.
- This port is similar to a modem port but slightly larger. If you do not have this port... don't despair, there are other alternatives.
- This port is located on the wall next to the TV cable.
- If your card is inserted correctly, the cables are secure and the network software and drivers are loaded, a light on the PCs etherport will begin to blink.
Launch your IE browser to surf the internet.
Don't have an ethernet port.
- ... if you have an USB port on your desktop or laptop, you can purchase an USB-to-ethernet converter.
... if you are using a desktop and have an open expansion slot, you can purchase and install an ethernet network 10/100 Mbps card (a.k.a. NIC).
... if you are using a laptop and have an open PCMCIA slot, you can purchase and install a 10/100 Mbps ethernet PC Card.
