System Requirements
To use the Cameron University Wireless Network, you will need to purchase a wireless Ethernet card for your PC, Macintosh, or PDA. The card must be Wi-Fi certified and support IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, or IEEE 802.11g standards. The card must be capable of utilizing 128-bit WEP encryption. Your computer must also meet the minimum requirements of the card you purchase. ITS recommends purchasing Proxim/Orinoco Gold PC Cards (model 8480-WD) for Microsoft Windows systems as well as older Macintosh Powerbooks. The 802.11 a/b/g card works very well with the wireless network. The Gold version provides enhanced security with a 128-bit key, using RC4 encryption.
For current model Apple Powerbook G4 and all iBook models, we recommend Apple AirPort Wireless Cards. AirPort is based on the IEEE 802.11b wireless standard and is Wi-Fi certified. It also includes the ability to use 128-bit encryption.
