Q1. How to log into Cognos Production?
- Log into aggie access, https://aggieaccess.cameron.edu, and use your Windows User Name and Password to login. Click on the Admin Services tab, and then click on the Cognos link.

Cognos 8: End-User Browser Settings

Several settings must be configured for end users to experience the full potential of Cognos, including downloading reports into excel format. This document provides a list of step-by-step instructions that will help users perform those configuration settings. This set of configurations is designated specifically to users who use Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox to access Cognos for reporting.

Internet security settings (Internet Explorer). It is important that after completing all the browser settings you close your browser window(s) and open a fresh browser window before logging in to Cognos 8.
- Setting the Data Warehouse as a Trusted Site
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click on Tools then scroll down and click on Internet Options.
- Click on the Security tab, then select Trusted Sites, and click the Sites button.
- In the field labeled Add the web site to the zone, type the following URL’s one at a time and click and click on the Add after each URL is entered.
- When the URL’s are added click on Close.
- On the same Security tab, click Custom level
- Scroll down to the Downloads Category, which can be found in the third group of settings, about 1/3 of the way down. Look for the icon with the little down arrow similar to the one in the picture below.
- Click Enable for each option under Downloads, and click OK.
- If you have Internet Explorer 8 installed on your computer, scroll down to the Scripting Category and disable XSS Filter and Click on OK.

- Click on the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section and un-check Do not save encrypted pages to disk and click OK.

Allowing pop-up from the Data Warehouse

For Cognos 8 to work, your browser must allow pop-ups from the Data Warehouse sites. If you are running a toolbar such as Yahoo, Google, MSN, or any other 3rd –party browser tool, you must update the pop-up blocker settings in those tools in addition to updating them in your browser.

In Internet Explorer do the following:

Click on the Tools menu; click Pop-up Blocker, and Pop-up Blocker Settings.

Click “Close”. Close your browser window.

Viewing Excel Output

To view reports in Excel you must set options for the Excel file types.

In Windows, click on Start (lower left corner), right-click on My Computer and click Explore.

At the top of the page, click on Tools and choose Folder Options.

Click on the File Types tab, and under registered file types scroll down and click on XLS.

Under Details for XLS Extension it should say, Opens with Microsoft Office Excel. If it doesn’t, click “Change” and choose Microsoft Office Excel from the program list.

Click on the “Advanced” button.

Check the box that says, “Confirm open after download”.

Check the box which reads says, “Browse in same window”. (If you would rather have Excel reports open in Excel rather than the browser window, un-check this box).

Click “OK” and click “Close”.

Close your browser before starting a new browser session.
How to Resolve Cognos Errors:
Error: Unable to generate or validate userSessionID
In many instances, clearing the cookie files from your browser should resolve this problem.
- Click on tools then go to Internet Options.
- Then Click on Delete Cookies
- You may also want to delete all offline content stored by clicking on the check box next to “Delete all offline content,” then click on OK.
Error: The user is already authenticated in the namespace 'LDAP_AD'
Cause: This problem occurs if you are already logged into cognos.
Solution: In the event that you do not have an accessible instance of cognos and this error message shows up, perform the following steps:
- Close every instance of IE that you have opened.
- Click on Start > Control Panel
- Double Click on Internet Options
- On the general tab, click on Delete
- On the Delete Browsing History table which appears, select:
- Preserve Favorites Website Data
- Temporary Internet Files
- Cookies
- History
- Passwords
- Click on Delete
- Click OK
- Open Internet Explorer again and go to the cognos URL, then log into cognos again.
