Communications Building
Built in 1977 as part of the McMahon Fine Arts Complex, the Communications Building has
always been just that - home to the Communication Department. As a result, the
building is well equipped for giving communications majors everything they
need to learn before graduation. Every classroom has a wall mounted monitor which can be used to examine and critique taped broadcasts and speeches and can also be connected to the local area network. A multimedia classroom features laser disk, VCR, and computer access.
Two radio labs allow students to work with both traditional
and digital audio systems as well as gain experience with both PC
based and Macintosh based systems. The television lab provides three
editing suites. Two of them are traditional editing style going from
recorder to recorder. The third is a Mac based AVID system. The tape is
loaded to a 21 Gig hard drive and a large monitor allows multiple videos
and screens to make editing a breeze.
The building also houses the lab for the Cameron Speech and Debate Team. National winners and competitors, the team's accomplishments are visible throughout the building with its mountains of trophies.
