Center for Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurial Studies
Cameron University will play a key role in the development of new technology in Southwest Oklahoma, thanks to its Center for Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurial Studies (CETES).
CETES will occupy space on campus in the building formerly known as the Physical Science Building. The building, originally built in 1964, was one of many erected during Richard B. Burch's presidency. Nearly all of its classrooms were the same size, making it easy to conduct student lab experiments and projects. A multimedia classroom on the lower level enriched the classroom experience for both students and professors. However, a growth in enrollment after Cameron became a four-year institution created cramped quarters, making it much more difficult to adequately meet the learning needs of students. The building was vacated in early 1997 when the department of physical sciences moved to the more spacious CU Sciences Complex.
Renovation of the building began in April 2004. CETES is a multipurpose facility that is intended to become a catalyst for the development and growth of knowledge-based industries in Oklahoma. It applies state-of-the-art technology and the expertise of CU faculty to develop a trained workforce and provide support services for fledgling industries. CETES also houses Cameron's Multimedia Design Department.
