Honors Courses for Fall 2007 (limited to honors enrollees)
HONORS COMPOSITION
Carefully selected readings from contemporary writers and great literary figures of the past are used to build skills in close reading and effective, confident writing. Trips to museums, performances, and lectures in Dallas, Fort Worth, Tulsa, and/or Oklahoma City provide direct experiences of art, history, and the world of ideas, expanding on our readings and bringing topics in general education courses to life. The courses emphasizes close reading of especially rewarding texts, close reading of our experience of others and the world around us, and the development, clarification, and expression of ideas. Our aim is to put students in the position to make A's in other courses whenever essays are required. The courses meet the General Education requirement in composition:

UNITED STATES HISTORY
HIST 1493: U.S. History since 1865 - Honors, Call # 0593
Professor: Suzanne Crawford
Study great issues and events that shaped the development of American culture since the Civil War. We look back to key periods and key people in our past to discover the roots of our current domestic and foreign policies. Field trips highlight the ways that our national history has shaped our great cities and continues to impact our lives and our landscapes today. This class is specifically coordinated with Honors Composition I and II, and is required for General Education.
MATHEMATICS
MATH 1513: College Algebra - Honors, Call # 0658
Professor: Dragan Jankovic
Study math in a smaller section with more chances for interaction with the professor. This course covers much the same material as a regular section of Math 1513 but goes into greater depth in understanding the mathematical concepts involved. This section requires an ACT MATH score of 25 or permission of the instructor or the Honors Program. This course is required for General Education.
GREAT IDEAS AND DISCOVERIES TO 1500
HON 2113: Honors Colloquium, Call # 0523
This course provides an opportunity to study the contributions to science, commerce, and the arts of some of the great civilizations in Egypt, the Near East, Asia, Europe, and the West. Honors colloquia are team-taught and enhanced with trips to see artifacts from the civilizations under examination.
This course satisfies the General Education requirement for the Humanities, and is required of all honors students before graduation.
