Program Description

The Master of Science in Educational Leadership (M.S.E.L.) is a comprehensive program for experienced teachers. It is designed to address many of the issues faced by school administrators. The goal of the program is to provide a framework of leadership skills that prepare program participants for the challenges faced by school administrators in the 21st century.

The objectives for the Master of Science in Educational Leadership are to assist and provide opportunities for students to develop

• Leadership in fostering a collegial relationship, problem solving, and effective communication with various constituents at the school, district, state, and federal levels;
• An understanding of, adherence to, and promotion of the legal requirements, ethical standards, and professional obligations at the school, district, state, and federal levels;
• Leadership strategies for dealing with geographically, ethnically, and economically diverse populations;
• Effective and best practice techniques for the assessment and supervision of personnel;
• Effective and industry standard techniques for the assessment and supervision of programs;
• An understanding of and proficiency in financial management; and
• An understanding of and proficiency in resource management.

A minimum of thirty-three (33) semester hours in approved graduate courses is required in the M.S. in Educational Leadership program.

*Must complete six (6) semester hours of internship

The Master of Science in Educational Leadership degree will be awarded when the student has met all of the following requirements within six (6) years:

• Completion of a minimum of 33 graduate hours listed on the Plan of Graduate Study with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above;
• Satisfactory scores on all recommendations and dispositional assessments;
• Passing scores on mid- and final-program portfolio checks;
• No more than two (2) C’s on the Plan of Graduate Study;
• Completion of “Application for Graduate Degree” form;
• Payment of the graduation fee; and
• Completion of the online exit survey.
