New Student Orientation-Gold Rush

For First Time Students Attending Fall Semester

Now that you have applied to attend Cameron University, you must sign up for and attend a summer Gold Rush. On this day, you will receive orientation information and enroll in your fall classes.

Cameron University is dedicated to helping you achieve success in your pursuit of a degree.  We feel that the first step on the path of success is to acquaint you with the university system, which includes academic requirements and the university services designed to assist you.  Gold Rush provides the opportunity to begin your academic studies feeling more knowledgeable, confident and prepared.

During the orientation portion of Gold Rush, we familiarize you with the campus and introduce you to our academic programs and course requirements, including policies and procedures.  We want to help make the transition to college a smooth process by providing you with helpful hints and an opportunity to talk with Cameron students.

Register online or call 580.581.2289 / 888.454.7600.  Each session of Gold Rush is filled on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier you schedule your Gold Rush, the earlier you will be able to enroll.

For Parents

Family members are encouraged to attend our Family Orientation at 12:30-2:30 p.m. on the day of their student's Summer Gold Rush. Important information for parents will be presented. Family members will also have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. You may RSVP for the Family Orientation online.

Placement Testing

To ensure a successful academic future, mandatory placement has been implemented for English, math, reading and science courses.  If you are under 21 years of age you must have an ACT score on file in order to be able to enroll.  Your ACT sub-scores in these areas are used to determine your need to enroll in pre-college level courses.

You may challenge your ACT placement in pre-college level classes by taking a placement test.  The math and reading tests are computerized.  However, the English placement test requires students to write an essay with guidelines provided by the Cameron University English Department.

Students 21 years of age and over are required to take computerized placement tests in English, reading and math in order to determine the need to enroll in pre-college level courses.

Placement testing is free of charge and is conducted through the Testing Office

If it is necessary for you to enroll in pre-college level courses, you must pass the course with a grade of 'C' or better in order to proceed to the next level.  Any pre-college level course must be successfully completed within the first 24 semester hours of college credit.  Prior to Gold Rush, you will receive information regarding your placement. It is best to take any placement tests prior to Gold Rush .
