Cameron University and East Central University (ECU) in Ada, Oklahoma, collaborate on the M.Ed. in Library Media and M.Ed./School Counselor, as well as a post-master’s certification program for School Psychometrist.
While the degrees are granted by ECU, Cameron University offers a certain number of credit hours toward the degrees on its campuses in Lawton or Duncan with other courses offered by ITV or online. Candidates may be required to travel to ECU for specific courses.
Master of Education Options
Library Media Program
The M.Ed. in Library Media is designed for graduate students planning to become a School Library Media Specialist in grades PK-12 in public or private educational settings. The intent of the program is to prepare competent, certified School Library Media Specialists in accordance with state and national professional standards and guidelines. All areas of school librarianship, including technology, are emphasized. Special attention is given to the development of the student as a consumer of research along with a major emphasis on the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are necessary to become a School Library Media Specialist.
School Counselor Program
The graduate program option for the school counselor is designed for the graduate student specializing in counseling at the elementary or secondary level and leads to the Master of Education degree. Special attention is given to the development of the student as a consumer of research along with a major emphasis on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are necessary to become a school counselor.
School Psychometry Certification Program
This program includes 30 hours of post master's coursework designed to focus on the psychometric techniques employed in conducting psycho-educational assessments, educational diagnosis, and multi-disciplinary team planning.
Students wishing to complete a collaborative program must be admitted to both universities’ graduate programs and should enroll as “non-degree seeking” at Cameron. Those interested in financial aid should apply through ECU.
Students enroll in Cameron classes through the Cameron University graduate advisor and enroll in ECU classes online after meeting with the appropriate program’s graduate advisor.
