The convocation is the only campus-wide event whose sole purpose is to focus on our joint academic enterprise. It is important to attend this colorful and festive ceremony. Students are encouraged to attend. Faculty are given the opportunity to allow students to attend or bring their class as a whole.
The Processional
The order of the processional is as follows:

Platform Party
The Platform Party leads the processional. The Platform Party consists of the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, the Chair of Faculty Senate, the Student Government President, designated Regents and speakers.
The Platform Party will meet at the sidewalk between the Music Building and Haggar Hall by 9:45 a.m. Jennifer Elbert will direct the lineup for the Platform Party.
Honor Students, McMahon Scholars, and Retired Faculty
University Honor Students, McMahon Scholars, and Retired Faculty follow the Platform Party in leading the procession. These students and the director of the honors program will meet at the northwest corner of Haggar Hall by 9:45 a.m.
Academic Banner Carriers
Banner Carriers are honor students chosen by the faulty to represent their discipline or program. Each banner carrier leads the faculty and staff of his or her discipline in the processional. Academic disciplines or programs represented by a banner are:

Banner Carriers will assemble promptly at 3:30 p.m. on October 13th at the fountain in the Fine Arts Courtyard for their first rehearsal. This first rehearsal should last no longer than 45 minutes.
Banner carriers should assemble at 9:15 a.m. at the fountain in the Fine Arts Courtyard for their final rehearsal, this time with banners. Banner Carriers, please be prompt! Men are asked to wear a coat and tie; women are asked to wear a dress or pantsuit. Low-heeled or flat shoes are recommended.
Banner carriers will direct lineup of the faculty and staff.
Faculty and Administrative Staff
Faculty and Administrative Staff should wear academic regalia and assemble in the grassy area west of the music building according to academic program. The processional for the convocation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Faculty and staff should assemble by 9:45 a.m. Banner carriers will direct lineup of the faculty and staff.
The Recessional
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the President will dismiss participants. As the band plays the recessional music, only the platform party and academic banners will return to the assembly area. All others are then free to leave.
