Summer Camps
Art, science, basketball, and multimedia are just a few of the topics featured during Cameron University’s summer camps, designed to appeal to children ages 6 – 18. The university offers a variety of programs of varying lengths and interests.
Adobe Flash CS3 Animation Workshop
Session 1: June 1-4
Session 2: June 7-10
Ages: 13 to 19
Time: 12:30-4 p.m.
Fee: $50 per session (each session covers different material)
Location: Cameron University, CETES 102
During Session 1, participants will learn and apply visual storytelling techniques in the creation of their own animation using vector drawings, sound bites, 3D objects, photography and Photoshop and Flash CS3.
Session 2 features different material, including rotoscoping digital images. Participants will combine video, graphics and animation in Flash CS3 to create an interactive cartoon.

Boys' Basketball Team Camp
June 1-3
Fee: $275 per team; Two teams for $500
Registration Deadline: May 25, 2010
Location: Cameron University
3 Game Guarantee per day. Officials & Score Keepers will be provided. Coach's Hospitality Room. Concessions will be available for campers. Coaches will receive a coach's packet after the team has paid and registered. This packet will contain game times, locations, game format, and rules.

Science Detectives Summer Academy
June 3-8, 2010
Ages: Students entering 9th or 10th grade in Fall 2010.
A FREE, residential camp on the Cameron University campus. Chaperones are on duty 24/7. Meals are included.
The Science Detectives Summer Academy asks the question "Is there a growing number of organisms developing resistance to antibiotics?" Through the course of this academy, students will be introduced to methods of collecting samples, scientific laboratory methods, scientific inquiry and opportunities for high school students to pursue biomedical education through the Oklahoma Technology Centers, as well as explore and experience healthcare careers in a hospital setting. It is also an opportunity to experience what it is like to study and live on a college campus.
During the day, participants will experience field and laboratory work in a state-of-the-art laboratory in the Science Complex, guided by public school science teachers and Cameron faculty. Evening activities include a swim party, Silly Olympics, a CSI mystery and more. Limited to 60 participants.
Sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Science Detectives Summer Academy is a collaborative effort by CU's Southwest Area Heath Education Center (SwAHEC), Department of Biological Sciences, and Education Department.

Fine Arts Summer Art Institute 2010
Fridays, June 4, 11, 18, 25 - Session I, Fundamentals of Drawing and Portfolio Development

Session I: FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING AND PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT
Students will participate in a variety of drawing assignments under the direction of professional artists. These workshops are specifically designed to increase student's perceptual observation skills through various drawing techniques with traditional media including graphite, charcoal, and conte. Areas of artistic development will include drawing (the merits of a sketch book); traditional subject matter (still life and figure), interaction of drawing and design; and abstraction and thematic variations. Drawing materials that will be provided include a spiral bound sketchbook, drawing paper, ebony, graphite, and charcoal pencils, and kneaded erasers.
Session II: DIGITAL ART AND COMPUTER GENERATED IMAGERY
Students will be introduced to several graphic software programs including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. They will use the Wacom drawing tablets for production of computer generated imagery. Computer Graphics and Image Enhancement, Aesthetics and Technology will be emphasized.

Creative Expressions Computer and Traditional Fine Arts Workshops

Fee: $125 per session (first child) *20% discount for each additional child
Location: Cameron University Art Department
Creative Expression summer art camp, comprised of four two-week art workshops, helps students (ages 6-13) explore their creative expression through visual art. Each session is unique, featuring a variety of creative opportunities. Participants will attend four art classes daily: digital art, drawing, mixed media (printmaking, drawing and painting) and crafts/sculpture. The art projects are designed to develop technical skill in the handling of art media and thinking skills in decision making and composition. The teacher staff is comprised of advance art students from Cameron and certified public school art teachers. All refreshments and all art supplies are provided. Each child will design an art portfolio to collect artworks from each class throughout the session and digital artwork will be printed and recorded on a CD for each participant.

Boy's Basketball Camp - Individual
June 7-10, 2010
Ages: Grades 2-6 - 9 - 11:30 a.m.; Grades 7-12, 1 - 3:30 p.m.
Fee: $80 per person when registered by May 24; $100 per person, on-site registration
Location: Cameron University
Concentration will be on improving fundamentals, developing winning habits and emphasizing team play. Camp will also include individual contests, team competitions, and games. Each camper will receive a jersey similar to those worn by the Cameron University Men's Basketball Players. FREE Gatorade for the week. Will be grouped by age or ability

NanoExplorers: A High School Summer Science Academy
Residential academy: June 14-18 and June 21-25
Hosted by Department of Physical Sciences
For high school students who have completed their freshman or sophomore year.
Free to Oklahoma residents. Registration is limited to 24 students.
NanoExplorers will introduce students to the concepts necessary to understand why very small systems exhibit unique behavior. Students will engage in hands-on activities designed to introduce the concepts of nanotechnology and related careers including applications in both chemistry and physics. Activities include the construction of a solar cell, construction of a super conductor train, determination of the crystal structure of a chemical compound, construction of a conductivity device, and an examination of amusement park physics that will include a trip to Frontier City in Oklahoma City.
The academy is supported through a grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and will be directed by Cameron faculty members Dr. E. Ann Nalley and Dr. Ramiro Moro.

Aggie Speed Camp
June 21-24
Ages: Grades K-3 - 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.; Grades 4 - 6, 1 - 3:30 p.m.
Fee: Early registration by June 9th: $50; Late registration June 10-20:$60; onsite registration: $70
Location: CU Fitness Center
Featuring top quality instruction, Aggie Speed Camp is designed to help all athletes improve performance in any sport. Campers will learn drills and techniques to improve their speed while having fun and playing exciting games. Participants receive a Speed Camp shirt and a Certificate of Completion. Refreshments will be provided.

K.I.D.S. Camp (Kids Investigating the Discovery of Science)

The K.I.D.S. camp will be fun and exciting for students and includes an air quality activity, "Sense-able Science" for Kindergarten, "Primarily Earth" for 1st grade, "Primarily Physics" for 2nd grade, "Jawbreakers and Heart Thumpers" for 3rd grade, "Hardhatting In a Geo-World" for 4th grade, and "Spills and Ripples" for 5th grade.

2010 Space Exploration Camp

Ages: Middle school students who have just completed 6th-8th grade

The Space Exploration camp will be fun and exciting for students and includes a night out with the Celestron telescope, a visit to the air and space museum in Weatherford, and an outing for rocketry.
