The Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award was established by Cameron University’s Enactus/SIFE student organization to recognize students who demonstrate a commitment to service within the community. The award is named in honor of former faculty advisor Dr. Sylvia M. Burgess who led Cameron University’s SIFE team in winning the 2005 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition. Candidacy for the award is open to all Cameron University students, and a $600 cash award is presented each spring semester.
Candidates for the Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award must meet the following requirements:
1.Must be a Cameron University student in good standing, or have graduated in good standing from Cameron University during the academic year of the award
2.Must have voluntarily served the community for at least 48 hours during the academic year of the award, and be able to provide written verification of service
Candidates must submit the following materials to the Department of Business office (ROSS 225) by 5:00pm, April 12, 2017, to be considered for the Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award:
1.Letter of candidacy describing service to the community deserving of recognition
2.Letter from community service organization verifying time of service
3.Any additional materials the candidate would like to include for consideration
The Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award will be presented at the Department of Business Student Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Recipients are asked to attend for presentation of the award, but attendance is not a requirement for receipt of the award.
