Stephen F. Bentley is a native Lawtonian. Bentley graduated from Lawton High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma in 1972. He continued a family legacy of excellence in the field of newspaper publishing and serves as the co-publisher of the Lawton Constitution with his brother, Don.
Bentley played a significant role in the betterment of Cameron during his 12-year tenure on the Board of Regents for The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University, and Rogers State University. Throughout his life, Bentley has been active in many local and state civic organizations including the Lawton Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma Society for Crippled Children, Democratic Leadership Council Oklahoma Business Roundtable, the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association and the Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce. Through the past 20 years, Bentley has received many accolades such as the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara award, the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, the Cameron University Distinguished Service Award in 1994, the Walter Neustadt Award for Outstanding Service to the University of Oklahoma students, the Joe Howell Excellence Award and the Significant Sig Award in 2005. |
