CU operates on a two-semester calendar. The fall semester usually begins in mid-August and ends in mid-December. The spring semester, which includes a one-week recess in March, begins in mid-January and ends in early May.

While academics are a priority at CU, an important part of the college experience takes place outside the classroom. Students can find activities that suit their talents, interests and abilities. A wide range of organizations is located on campus, including departmental, minority, professional, political and religious groups and various honorary and recognition societies. Students can become involved in student government, choral groups, a jazz ensemble, theatre or Greek life.
During their free time, students can participate in intramural sports, intercollegiate athletics and other recreational activities. The CU Fitness Center houses basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, and NCAA regulation-size swimming pool, a running track, aerobic exercise area and a weight training area, which features cross-training equipment. Located nearby are eight tennis courts. Use of the fitness facility is open to CU students, staff and faculty. Intercollegiate sports are an important part of campus life. Men play basketball, baseball, golf, country and tennis, while women participate in basketball, volleyball, softball, golf and tennis. Cameron competes in the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference.
Student Population
Cameron has an enrollment of approximately 5,400 full and part-time students each fall and spring semester. The summer semester has a small enrollment. Minority students make up 38% of the total enrollment. The current breakdown is as follows: 19% African-American, 8% Native-American, 8% Hispanic and 3% Asian. The current international student body represents 254 students from 44 different countries.
Faculty
Approximately 68 percent of the faculty holds doctoral degrees or the highest degree offered in their fields; 194 full-time faculty members and 50 adjunct professors teach courses. The student-faculty ration is 23 to 1. There are no graduate or teaching assistants teaching classes at CU.
