Alternative Spring Break: March 18-24

Volunteer to be a part of Cameron University's first Alternative Spring Break! Taking part will provide a meaningful, fun, memorable experience which may be the highlight of your college career. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity!

Project

Cameron University has teamed up with Relief Spark to provide five days of much needed disaster recovery work to the Joplin area.

Help us rebuild Joplin! We are seeking skilled/unskilled volunteers in all phases of construction - from foundation to landscaping. We have homes that are wood frame to ICF blocks.  ALL of our rebuilding projects will be rebuilt utilizing a minimum of 75% green materials, if not 100%, from recycled lumber to ICF blocks, to environmentally friendly paint to solar panels.

We welcome experienced professionals in the field of green construction to join our team/advisory committee.  All work performed by volunteers will be overseen by a General Contractor and/or experienced sub-contractor. Volunteers will frame, install insulation, drywall/mud, paint, install trim, install (some) flooring, lay sod, plant trees/shrubs/flowers, and install doors and hardware throughout the home.  Our GC partners will provide roofers, electricians, plumbers and other professionals to ensure that homeowners will have a solid, well-built home.

*We plan on working in Joplin,MO for 3 years or 50 months.  Goal:  50 homes.

Cost

For a mere $100, Cameron University and Relief Spark will be providing all transportation, food, materials, and lodging for the trip. Volunteers will also receive two t-shirts for participating as well as some other special gifts for participating.
