Formatting elements like lists, headings, and links, are read aloud to screen reader users, so the content is understood in context. 1

Lists

  • Unordered lists (bullets) should be used when there is no sequence of importance.
  • Ordered lists (numbers) suggest a progression or sequence.
  • Lists should not be used for decoration purposes such as indenting solely for layout purposes.

  • Caramel
  • Mocha
  • Vanilla

Example of an Ordered List

My favorite colors are:

  1. Black
  2. Gold
  3. White
